Rajinikanth’s “2.0” and Priya Prakash Varrier was the most trending film and personality this year
As an annual year-end tradition, Google has released data on the top searches in India across various categories. Sports dethroned entertainment this year, with the top three trending overall queries include ‘FIFA World Cup 2018’, ‘Live Score’ and ‘IPL 2018’.
Tamil and Malayalam film industries walked away with the top searches in trending movies and personalities categories this year. Besides being the highest grossing film of 2018, Rajinikanth’s recently released film 2.0 was the most Googled film, while the 19-year-old actor, Priya Prakash Varrier, who became an internet hit overnight with her winking, was the most searched personality.
This year, football toppled cricket and Bollywood, which traditionally have been the top two themes that pique Indian curiosity. Apart from being the top query, FIFA World Cup 2018 was also the most searched in sports and news categories.

Top five Indian films this include 2.0, Baaghi 2, Race 3, Tiger Zinda Hai and Sanju. Avengers: Infinity War was the most searched Hollywood film and also the fourth most trending movie in India. Black Panther, Deadpool 2, Sex and the City and The Nun were other popular Hollywood films.
The recently married couple Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas feature in the top five trending personalities along with dancer and singer Sapna Choudhary and entrepreneur Anand Ahuja, who tied the knot with Sonam Kapoor earlier this year.
The year of high profile weddings has reflected in people’s search histories as well. ‘Priyanka Chopra Nick Jonas Wedding’, ‘Deepika Padukone wedding’ and ‘Sonam Kapoor marriage’ are in the top ten trending news of 2018, along with Karnataka election results, Nipah virus, Statue of Unity, Bitcoin price, budget 2018 and Section 377.
