Donald Trump has denied responsibility for Americans ingesting disinfectants after Maryland governor Larry Hogan said he had received calls asking about it as a weapon against coronavirus in the wake of the president suggesting it could be an effective remedy during a briefing last week.
Trump has meanwhile deleted several angry, misspelled tweets attacking the media over its negative coverage of the federal response to the crisis after they were met with criticism and mockery, with CNN anchor Jake Tapper describing his posting of a disturbing deepfake video of Joe Biden as “indecent and obscene”.
In his latest White House press conference on Covid-19, the president announced a new plan to roll out national testing for the virus as several key states commenced their gradual reopening from lockdown.

Pence unmasked
VP Mike Pence is coming under fire for touring the Mayo Clinic without wearing a mask.
Video of the tour showed Pence's 10-person entourage all wearing masks to slow the spread of coronavirus at the medical facility, which requires all patients, visitors and staff to wear face coverings.
The clinic seemingly tweeted that "Mayo Clinic had informed @VP of the masking policy prior to his arrival today" before deleting it about 30 minutes later.

Schools may reopen. Young people do very well with coronavirus, says Trump
Trump said the country can begin thinking about reopening schools as young people do extraordinarily well with the coronavirus.
Speaking to reporters during today's press briefing, Trump said:
"It's a bad death. It's a bad thing. It grips onto some people. Now we've found out young people do extraordinarily well, that's why I think we can start thinking about schools."
"But of course we're ending the school season. So, you know, it wouldn't be, probably, you wouldn't be back for too long. I know that where Purdue University, a great school and a great state, wants to open and have students come in and I think that's correct."
"Some colleges, I think I saw Harvard wants to have students come back in the fall. I would hope they'd have students."
"I think that the whole concept of computer learning is wonderful... but it's not the same thing as being in a classroom in a great college or college of any kind, college or university, you can't replace that."
"So hopefully they're going to be coming back. Young people do very well with this horrible scourge."
