Google and Sigmoid Labs team confirmed about the acquisition on Monday.
Google has acquired India-centric ‘Where is my Train’ travel app fame startup company, Sigmoid Labs Pvt Ltd on Monday. The search giant confirmed to VentureBeat in an email statement saying Bengaluru-based Sigmoid Labs will be joining the company, and will continue to work on the app.
“We are excited that they’re joining Google and will be part of a team that will continue to build on the current offering and more,” a Google spokesperson stated.
Even the Sigmoid Labs team also noted about Google’s acquisition in blog post saying, “We’re excited to share that Sigmoid Labs, the team behind the “Where is my train” app, is joining Google. We can think of no better place to help us achieve our mission, and we’re excited to join Google to help bring technology and information into more people’s hands.”
The Android-only ‘Where is my train’ as the name suggests, helps you track trains across India. The app is the highest rated travel app in India, and offers information to users in eight different languages. It is available on Google Play, and has garnered over 10 million downloads.

The travel app also displays live train status, and up-to-date schedules. It can also function offline without needing internet or GPS. It is also gets features like destination alarms and a speedometer. The app description on Google Play notes that it has no affiliation with Indian Railways, but users can still check for seat availability and PNR Status within the app.
