Hyderabad lockdown news: Today's updates from your city


HYDERABAD: Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
ANI update at 10.00pm: Kanchikacherla Police on Sunday detained 8 people and seized 5 tipper vehicles and 1 JCB, taking action on a quarry running illegally during the nationwide lockdown in Devanabanda village in Andhra Pradesh, police said.
Update at 9.35pm: 12kg rice free of cost and Rs 1500 financial assistance will be given to 87 lakh card holders in May also: Telangana CM KCR
Update at 9.30pm: Telangana CM announces private recognised educational institutions not to increase even a single paisa of fees in the ensuing 2020-21 academic year. This is a government order under epidemic Act and has to be followed mandatory otherwise recognition will be cancelled.
Update at 9.30pm: Government issues orders to defer rents for the month of March, April, May. House and flat owners have to follow this as it is a government order not a request.

Update at 9.00pm: Telangana cabinet decides to extend lockdown upto May 7, announced CM KCR. On May 5 cabinet will again meet to review the situation and take a decision on lockdown.
PTI update at 8.45m: Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Sunday appealed to Muslims to perform namaz at home during the coming holy month of Ramzan. Noting that there was no medicine or vaccine for the pandemic coronavirus now and implementation of lockdown was the best solution, he requested members of the community to "perform namaz during coming Ramzan season at their homes."
PTI update at 8.00pm: A 35-year-old Hyderabad police constable tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, a day after his colleague was found to be infected by the deadly virus, police said. The duo, which performed duties at a check post from April 1 to 5 in the cityhad taken all necessary precautions, they said.
ANI update at 7.40pm: Doctors have set a record by conducting 5,508 coronavirus tests per day taking second place among states conducting maximum number of Covid-19 tests per million: Chief Minister's Office, Andhra Pradesh
Update at 7.30pm: In a cause of some serious concern, 11 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Srikalahasti municipality limits on Sunday, taking the overall number of cases in the pilgrim town to 24 and the overall Covid-19 cases in Chittoor district to 35 on Sunday.
Update at 7.15pm: Coronavirus cases spiked alarmingly yet again in Kurnool district, where the overall tally of Covid-19 patients crossed the 150 mark on Sunday, after 26 fresh coronavirus cases were reported across the district in the last 24 hours. And the death toll in the district too went up to five, after a 78-year-old Covid-19 patient passed away on Sunday.
PTI update at 6.00pm: A possible community transmission of the dreaded coronavirus in Vijayawada city has triggered a major scare even as the number of positive cases in Andhra Pradesh climbed further up on Sunday to 647 in the last 24 hours and the toll to 17.

ANI update at 4.30pm: Authorities in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh quarantined 27 fishermen after they entered into Iddivanipalem village in Kaviti Mandal of the via sea root from Chennai on Sunday. As soon as the officials came to know about their arrival, the fishermen were shifted to the quarantine centre at Rajaram Puram, Kaviti Mandal. The fishermen are residents of different villages in the Srikakulam district, officials said.
IANS update at 3.45pm: One more person died of coronavirus while 44 new positive cases were registered in Andhra Pradesh during last 24 hours, officials on Sunday. The latest fatality was reported from Kurnool district, taking the death toll in the state to 17.
Update at 3pm: A balanced diet comprising nutrient-rich vegetables, fruits, pulses, cereals and curd coupled with a healthy lifestyle are the key to boost the immune system, a focal point in the fight against coronavirus, according to the premier nutrition institute under the union health ministry.

Khairatabad & Charminar areas top containment zones’ charter
Officials said Khairatabad has the highest containment zones in the city with 51 hotspots followed by Charminar, which has 49 clusters as on April 17. While Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam, Karwan, Jubilee Hills and Goshamahal circles fall under Khairatabad zone, Charminar, Malakpet, Falaknuma, Santoshnagar, Chandrayangutta and Rajendranagar come under Charminar zone. Among the six municipal zones, LB Nagar has only two hotspots, with least affected Covid-19 positive cases.
Telangana govt unlikely to relax lockdown norms till April 30
With no let-up in the coronavirus positive cases, more so in Greater Hyderabad limits, the state government is considering continuing the lockdown till April 30 stringently, giving scope for very few relaxations. The government is more worried about growing cases in Hyderabad and has apprehensions that if the lockdown is eased for even some sectors as being allowed by the Centre, it would lead to further progression of cases in the state.

As lockdown turns off booze tap, addicted migrant kids struggle
“It’s as though I have no control over myself – over what I speak or do. All I feel is an uncontrollable thirst for alcohol,” Akash (name changed), a migrant worker in his mid-teens staying at Chandanagar shelter camp, shivers as he recalls an aggressive episode of alcohol withdrawal after which he was rushed to a clinic a few days back.
